One of the most spectacular is\u00a0<strong><em>the garden room of the Villa of Livia<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0(yes, Augustus\u2019 wife, basically Rome\u2019s first &#8220;first lady&#8221;): trees, birds and lush greenery create a feeling of stepping into a calm, timeless landscape.<\/p>\n<p>Untill the focus shifts to the extravagant world of\u00a0<strong><em>Caligula<\/em><\/strong>,\u00a0<strong><em>whose ships\u00a0<\/em><\/strong>from Lake Nemi\u00a0<strong><em>were<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0essentially\u00a0<strong><em>floating palaces<\/em><\/strong>, symbols of luxury and excess.
