Tour in Depth

Just a little over an hour from Rome, Anzio is perfect for a day trip. It’s a waterfront town, where multiple layers of history sit side by sideFrom Ancient Rome to World War II, all framed by the sea and beaches that are still stunning today.

During WWII, Anzio was the site of the major Allied landings in 1944. Today, you can still explore the remnants of that dramatic chapter: bunkers hidden along the coast, a powerful War Museum that preserves artifacts and stories from the battles, and three different military cemeteries that stand as quiet, moving reminders of the past.

But Anzio’s story goes even further back. This was the birthplace of Emperor Nero and along the beach you can still see the remains of his imperial villa, romantically known as the ‘Grotte di Nerone: striking Roman cave-like ruins set directly on the shoreline.

And for a deeper dive into ancient history, you can explore the town’s Archaeological Museum.A glimpse into the luxury and richness of its imperial past.

Anzio is a place where history doesn’t just sit in the background, it surrounds you, from ancient splendor to modern conflict, all softened by the sound of the waves.

And yes, a proper seaside lunch fits in too, because exploring works up an appetite.
